## Industrial Service Work Across the GTA

Industrial service upgrades cover warehouses, manufacturing facilities, three-phase service and 600V distribution. This page is the hub for every industrial service we run, and each one has its own page with the load profile, sequencing and price band for that scope.

Industrial work is defined by two things that do not apply to a house or a retail unit. The first is the load profile: motors have starting currents several times their running current, duty cycles that affect heating, and simultaneity patterns that depend on how the plant is actually operated. A study that sums nameplates gets it wrong in both directions, undersizing feeders while over-specifying switchgear. Every design still has to satisfy the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) and clear ESA plan review before it gets built.

The second is downtime. A production line and a distribution centre both have a value per hour, so the project is built around your shutdown calendar. Switchgear gets set and feeders get pulled while operations continue, because none of that work touches live circuits. Transfers happen in agreed windows.

Behind both sits the utility. A new three-phase or 600V service normally needs transformer, vault or primary work, priced and scheduled by the utility, with lead times measured in weeks to months. On a full service conversion that is frequently the largest cost in the project, and we put it in front of you at the start rather than letting it appear late.

The homepage carries the full cost table and the questions we field most often:

## When a Facility Needs Distribution Work

- **New or replacement machinery.** Nameplates on new equipment frequently exceed the feeders serving the old.
- **A cell or line expansion.** New feeders, starters and disconnects, plus a re-check of simultaneity across the plant.
- **Breakers trip on simultaneous starts.** The signature of distribution sized on running current alone.
- **No spare switchgear sections or MCC buckets.** The reason every subsequent equipment change becomes a project.
- **Charging fleets being added.** Forklift or vehicle charging, which is a demand-profile question first.
- **Fault current has changed.** After any service upgrade, equipment ratings need re-verification.
- **Maintenance cannot isolate equipment.** Missing local disconnects is an operational and a safety problem.

## What Drives Industrial Cost

**Switchgear and MCC scope** leads within the contractor portion, since sections and buckets are the largest equipment items. **Voltage class** is second, because 600V equipment and step-down transformers cost more than 120/208V. **Feeder count and routing** is third, particularly where runs are long or at height. **Shutdown constraints** are fourth, because work compressed into short windows needs more crew for less time.

Utility infrastructure sits outside the contractor scope entirely and is quoted separately, because it is priced by the utility and cannot be discounted or accelerated by a contractor.

## What Every Industrial Job Includes

A load study modelling running current, starting current, duty cycle and simultaneity, with a growth allowance for planned equipment. Utility supply confirmation before anything is specified. A commercial ESA plan review prepared and submitted by us, including short-circuit current rating verification against actual available fault current. A schedule built from your shutdown calendar. Phase rotation verified and documented before first start on every affected machine. And at handover, tagged feeder records, switchgear and MCC schedules, the as-built single-line diagram, the ESA Certificate of Inspection and an itemised invoice.

## How Much Does Industrial Upgrades Cost in Toronto?

Contractor scope runs $5,000 to $15,000 CAD. Utility transformer, vault and primary infrastructure is priced by the utility and quoted separately.

### What Moves the Price

#### Overhead mast or underground lateral

An underground service entrance needs trenching and civil work, so it sits higher in the range than a mast and weatherhead replacement.

#### Panel brand and circuit count

Siemens, Square D / Schneider Electric and Eaton load centres price differently, and a 42-circuit panel costs more than a small enclosure.

#### Service entrance length and routing

Conductor length from the meter base to the panel, plus any wall penetration or conduit work, changes the material and labour line.

#### Scope flagged by the load calculation

An OESC Section 8 result can add a subpanel, a grounding electrode conductor or a meter base that was not in the original plan.

| Scope | Low | High |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Distribution or machine feeders within existing service | $ 5,000 | $ 9,000 |
| Switchgear or MCC addition with feeders | $ 8,000 | $ 13,000 |
| New three-phase or 600V service with cutover | $ 11,000 | $ 15,000 |

## Why Choose Us for Industrial Upgrades?

ECRA/ESA licensed, permit filed, utility coordinated, quote itemised.

- ### Production comes first

The schedule is built from your shutdown calendar. Transfers happen in agreed windows, never on an unannounced production day.

- ### Loads modelled, not summed

Simultaneity, starting currents and duty cycles go into the study, which sizes equipment correctly rather than conservatively.

- ### Utility lead times surfaced early

Transformer and vault work is the longest item on most industrial projects. We start it first and tell you the real timeline.

- ### As-builts maintenance can trust

Tagged feeders, MCC bucket schedules and a single-line that matches what is actually installed.

## How Does Industrial Upgrades Work?

## Industrial Upgrades FAQs

### What does industrial electrical work cover?

Three-phase and 600V service upgrades, switchgear and motor control centres, machine and zone distribution, forklift and fleet charging capacity, and the load studies and short-circuit current rating verification that support them. Each area has its own page with the detail for that scope.

### How much does industrial electrical work cost in Toronto?

The contractor scope runs $5,000 to $15,000 CAD depending on whether it is distribution work inside an existing service, a switchgear or MCC addition, or a new three-phase or 600V service. Utility transformer, vault and primary infrastructure is priced by the utility and is frequently the largest number in a full service conversion.

### Why does a load study matter so much in industrial work?

Because machine loads behave differently from lighting and receptacles. Starting current can be several times running current, duty cycles affect heating, and simultaneity across cells changes the demand profile entirely. A study that adds up nameplate running currents will undersize feeders and oversize switchgear at the same time.

### Can you work around production?

Yes, and it is how we schedule every industrial project. Switchgear and feeders can be installed while the plant runs, because that work does not touch live circuits. Transfers and cutovers are executed inside your agreed shutdown windows.

### Which voltage is right for our facility?

120/208V three-phase suits smaller motors and shorter distribution runs. 347/600V suits large motor loads and long runs, with step-down transformers for control and lighting. The load study and the building footprint decide it. See \[three-phase electrical service upgrades\](/three-phase-electrical-service-upgrades/) and \[600V electrical service upgrades\](/600v-electrical-service-upgrades/).

### Do you install motor control centres?

Yes. MCCs, starters, VFD feeds and the distribution serving them are part of the scope, with bucket schedules documented and feeders tagged. See \[manufacturing facility electrical upgrades\](/manufacturing-facility-electrical-upgrades/).

### What about forklift and fleet charging?

Charging is a demand-profile question before it is a circuit question, because chargers run for long durations on shift patterns. We model simultaneous demand across your fleet rather than summing nameplates. See \[warehouse electrical upgrades\](/warehouse-electrical-upgrades/).

### Why verify short-circuit current rating?

Available fault current rises as a service gets larger and closer to the utility transformer. Equipment adequately rated on the old service may be under-rated on the new one, which turns a controlled trip into a serious hazard. Verification is part of the plan review submission.

### How long do industrial projects take?

The install is days to weeks. The project is weeks to months, driven by the utility service application, any transformer or vault work, and the ESA plan review. We give you a schedule built on those dependencies rather than on install duration.

### What documentation does the plant file get?

The as-built single-line diagram, switchgear and MCC schedules, tagged feeder records, the load study, SCCR and phase rotation verification, the ESA Certificate of Inspection and the itemised invoice.

### Still have a question?

Ask the crew directly. We answer load calculation, permit and utility coordination questions before you commit to anything.
